Crab and Corn Chowda is a variation on the fish soup we cooked last night, replacing the cod and shrimp with corn and crabmeat, and with the addition of red pepper. The soup is extremely easy to make, and is an excellent meal, although less than photogenic. We cooked enough to stretch it out for three people so that we could feed our sick neighbour as a thank you. He housed our cats today while we had an open house for realtors to look around our place. We may have had a little too much liquid in there, in ratio to the solids, but nevertheless this was a great soup. We haven’t heard from our neighbour as to what he thought of it, but we were both very impressed. As two variations on one recipe, each of these meals is as good as the other, which is exactly as it should be.
Today we trawled around a few houses trying to find somewhere that we could afford to move to. To stay in the area we live in, we need to make a number of compromises on our list of wanted features. The house that we had hoped was pretty perfect turned out to be not so fabulous on a second viewing. One of the problems seems to be that the more houses we look at, the more we love our place. Keeping it clean, however, in tip-top showing condition, is proving difficult already. We were home for 15 minutes or so after the realtors had left, before we got a call asking if someone could come and look round on short notice- like in 10 minutes time. It’s amazing how much mess we’d made in the time we’d been home. I think we’re going to have to start vacuuming twice a day, and cleaning in an obsessive fashion. Trying to cook without leaving any mess or odour is proving difficult. Under any other circumstances we’d just be eating takeaway. Tomorrow we’ll be cooking with anchovies, just to keep up the fish run; Spaghetti con Aglio e Olio with Tomato and Onion Salad.
