We had planned to make Super-Grilled Steak Sandwich with Horseradish-Dijon Cream and Spicy Greens for lunch so that we could eat the same dinner as our vegetarian friend. Unfortunately we forgot to shop before lunch, so we had to make steak at dinner time, with a vege pizza on the side. We grilled the red onions and tomatoes, followed by the flank steak. The baguette was also seared on the grill, after being drizzled with olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper. The whole lot was piled together with some arugula and dressing. The Horseradish-Dijon Cream consisted of sour cream, parsley, horseradish, Dijon mustard and salt and pepper, all stirred together. The pizza we put in the oven and removed when it was done, without sustaining any burns or anything, very uneventful. Our friend had a little of the toasted baguette, grilled vegetables and cream as a side dish, and pronounced it a success.
The steak sandwich was remarkably good, albeit a messy meal. The flank steak was moist and succulent and the grilled vegetables added some colour, crunch and flavour to the sandwich. The dressing was both creamy and tangy, adding another level of taste to the food. Overall, this was a great success, although it was an extremely meaty meal to serve with a vegetarian present. This would have been a great lunch with some salad or chips, had we been organised enough to plan ahead. We’ll make this one again.
Tomorrow we are having Tex-Mex Grilled Chicken Caesar which is part one in a two part chicken caesar salad adventure. Hopefully we will have friends along for the ride- we bought a jumbo pack of chicken breasts which always seems slightly wrong.
