Day 259: And on the 33rd day there was furniture

Today: furniture. Inside. Big, big improvement. We had some very generous friends over and, basically while A and I took a nap, our furniture was brought inside from the garage. In our old condo we had a huge living room area, and a separate dining room that we never used. Now we have a living/ dining room, which is far more practical, but we simply have too much furniture. We have a lot of books and records and CD’s to house, plus huge Ikea sofas. Things are looking a little snug, currently. We’ll have to do some rejigging but it certainly is nice to have things inside. Once we get some blinds up and some lamps in place, and the TV hooked up, our days of evenings in the baby/ cat room will be over. At least until the baby comes. Now there are just maybe forty boxes of stuff to unpack, and we are good to go.

And so we made A Burger for Brad: Barbecue Burger Deluxe this evening, which actually rates as one of the better burgers we have eaten this year. The ground beef is mixed with red onions and garlic, and flavoured with a mixture of hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, liquid smoke and grill seasoning. They are topped with cheddar towards the end of the cooking time. After frying, they are served on a bun with lettuce, tomato, red onion and steak sauce. They are served with “fancy” chips of choice, a welcome change from the normal “exotic” chips.

Rachael Ray’s burgers are always mountainous. Even though we know by now to cut portions down to a fraction of the called-for size, there is always an excess of burger. This one was good though, it had a sweet smoky barbecue flavour within the meat, rather than the only zing coming from any added sauce. If you were to make a burger from scratch, this one is pretty good. Tomorrow we will be doing yet more burger with Buffalo Turkey Burgers with Blue Cheese Dressing. Plah.

    For what it’s worth, the Buffalo Turkey Burgers are my husband’s absolute favorite, and we don’t even go the extra step and coat them in the hot sauce (we don’t like spicy) and add the dressing.
