Tonight’s dinner, Chicken Cacciatore Stoup, was disappointing, despite our moderately high hopes. This is a tomato-based chicken soup (not stoup I’m afraid, no matter what Ms Ray insists), and that was about as far as the flavours went. Despite grill seasoning, red pepper flakes, rosemary and red wine, this still tasted predominantly of tinned tomatoes. There were chunks of potato in there, cut into 1″ cubes, which most certainly did not cook in the specified 8-10 minutes. We waited around a lot and eventually hunger got the better of us so they were a little tough in the middle. Most of the vegetables were tasty enough- celery, onions, garlic, mushrooms and red pepper and basil, but the chicken tasted a bit like an old boot. If it wasn’t for the humble chicken, this book would be considerably thinner. Tomorrow we get to choose our meat with Garlic and Mint Lamb or Chicken Patties on Lentil Salad. You’ll never guess which one we’ll be doing.
This entry is a short one as the in-laws arrive tomorrow for a week long visit. We have to do some cleaning between now and tomorrow afternoon. And of course I have to ring our webhost once more. This morning I got an email saying that the problem had been solved, sorry for the inconvenience. Maybe it had been solved, but not for us, alas. The inconvenience continues.
